Natural Horsemanship in Spain

Have horses here in Spain and would like some help and advice? A youngster whos getting bigger and stronger everyday and you don’t have enough time to handle them and are dreading backing them?  An older horse with problems you just cant change?  Or even if you’re a first time horse owners and just curious……

My way of describing natural horsemanship ….

When I think about natural horsemanship, in my mind, it means working with a horse without using force or violence and not losing your patience. Being positive and always looking for new ways to gain the animals trust.  From the horses point of view, who are very sensitive creatures, if a human is communicating with them in a language they comprehend their more likely to understand and oblige.

Where we perhaps go wrong with the horse…

As with any animal you must allow the time necessary for them to absorb new information and adapt to change, humans tend to want everything now and get frustrated when they don’t get the immediate desired results.  If you’re starting a youngster, time and patience are essential to develop not just a relationship, but a special bond.  If you have an older horse with problems, old habits die hard but with time, patience, guidance and real dedication, anything’s possible.  In my opinion a horse isn’t just for riding, I love to just sit with mine and watch them eat grass or play and run around in the round pen…

The masters of the horse world….

There are many great horse people out there in the world of natural horsemanship, far too many for me to list, and each has a different take on things. Yet they all have the same common goal which is to achieve results without force or violence and embrace the horses soul and instincts rather than just beating them until they submit.   I think, like us, every horse is different and each needs an individual approach so its great there’s so many good books out there now, written by the masters, and courses available enabling people to gain a variety of knowledge to improve understanding between them and their horse.
